Region favoured for the culture of the grapevine and production of wines of high quality with the only personality and great aptitude for the upbringing, the zone ofproduction of the Name of Origin Qualified Rioja is placed in the North of Spain, to both margins of the river Ebro. The geographical accidents have helped to shape a natural region perfectly delimited and differentiated from those who him make a detour.

Three subfields exist with wine differentiated characteristics: RIOJA ALAVESA, RIOJA ALTA and RIOJA BAJA.
The varieties of Red grape nowadays authorized by the Regulation of the D. O. Ca. Rioja are: TEMPRANILLO, GARNACHA, GRACIANO, MAZUELO and MATURANA TINTA. The main variety of white grapes is the Viura grape, although they are also native varieties, the Malvasia de Rioja, Garnacha Blanca, Tempranillo Blanco, Maturana Blanca and Turruntés de Rioja.
